A Look At Super Bowl Halftime Shows, Past, Present…And A Request For The Future?

Since our beloved Steelers aren’t in the game…let’s turn our attention to something everyone can agree (or disagree, LOL) on:

The Halftime Show.

They weren’t all aging legends and wardrobe malfunctions. The first ones featured marching bands and the like.

By the time our Black and Gold were collecting Lombardis, they looked much like this.

This one was from Super Bowl IX.

CBS This Morning did a cool piece before last year’s game that dug into the history of the Halftime Show.

By the time the Nineties started, the halftime shows featured acts more reflective of the current state of Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, Rock…hmmm what’s missing here?

Ok, there was ONE Halftime Show featuring Country Music. It was 1994. Clint Black, Travis Tritt, Tanya Tucker and The Judds.

But I digress.

After the infamous 2004 ‘wardrobe malfunction’ show…the NFL decided to play it safe with a series of mostly aging legends, of which Prince’s was probably the best.

This year, it’s Stefani Germanotta’s turn. Of course, it’s just easier to call her by her stage name…Lady Gaga.

I may be wrong, but I don’t forsee any meat dresses in this performance.

What I’d like to forsee, however, is another Country Music Halftime Show. 23 years is way too long for a genre of music more popular than anything else in America.

So what say you? Who’d star in YOUR Country Music Halftime Show?
