Ally & Andy American Warrior: Skip Owens, U.S. Army

Skip Owens graduated Mt. Lebanon two semesters early in 1995 to enlist into the Army. He became a Stinger Missile Operator (14S) and was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.

During his first six years, he became a Non-Commissioned Officer,Squad Leader, and Jump Master. Skip got out in 2002, and was stop-lossed in 2003. deploying for 18 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

After the deployment he became part of the Recruiting and Retention Command as our numbers were dwindling. In 2011 President Obama ordered a reduction in force (RIF) and Skip was discharged on grounds of being “medically unfit for retention.”

Skip now lives on five beautiful acres in Center Township and attends La Roche College in the last semester of his Junior Year.

He plans to obtain a Doctorate in Theology and perform mission work in Uganda and the Sudan.
