Pharrell will be soon be bringing his big beats and soul flavor to the country world. The producer and hip-hop artist has been tapped to produce Little Big Town’s newest album Wanderlust.
Karen Fairchild detailed how their collaboration came to be. “What started out as one writing session a few months ago turned into multiple writing sessions, as well as back and forth trips from Nashville to Los Angeles,” she said. “When the songs started coming together, we realized it was too special to not share with our fans” (via Music Row).
It sounds like it’s going to be an interesting combination. “Pharrell loves country music and is a huge fan of harmony,” Fairchild said. “That shared passion and appreciation took us on a creative journey we had no idea would happen. The music feels like our worlds have collided in the best possible way—his infectious grooves paired with our layered vocals and harmonies.”
How they came to meet might have something to do with Justin Timberlake. Earlier this year, he shared several photos on Instagram showing him in the studio with Pharrell and Little Big Town on separate occasions. At the time, there were rumors circulating that he was working on new music for his upcoming album or possibly adding to his music roster for Trolls. But perhaps he ended up being the catalyst for this newest collaboration.
Then again, maybe Little Big Town’s newest album is only Pharrell flexing his country muscles as he gears up to work on more music with Timberlake, who has been exploring his country roots as well.
As a cross promotion with Pharrell’s show The Voice, the band will perform their new song “One of Those Days” on the show today (May 24). Wanderlust drops June 10th.
