Dierks Bentley’s Career Inspiration Started with a Girl

It was his first concert. At the age of 13, Dierks Bentley was standing in the crowd with other fans at a Bon Jovi concert. That’s when the inspiration for him to become a singer hit him.

During an interview with the TODAY’s Willie Geist, Dierks said noticed a girl in a short, black leather dress standing next to him. He said he remembers looking up at her and thinking ‘Wow! This is what I wanna do. Whatever those guys [band on stage] are doing, yeah I wanna do that.’

Dierks said he’s had the chance to meet Jon Bon Jovi since then and actually opened for the band at a show in Kentucky once. He recalls telling Jon the story saying he didn’t really remember much of the concert, just the girl in the black dress. Dierks said that Jon told him that’s the sign of a good show.
