Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood Fight for ‘The Fighter’

By Robyn Collins

You might say Keith Urban had to “fight” to get Carrie Underwood on his new record — but it wasn’t because she didn’t want to work with him. Both singers were into collaborating for his ninth studio album. Coordinating their schedules was another thing altogether.

Urban says he thought of Underwood right away after writing the song “The Fighter” with Busbee.

“She said, ‘I have a day off in St. Louis, it’s the only day off between now and when you need to finish your record’,” Urban told Taste of Country Nights radio host Sam Alex

Urban was shooting a video for his single “Wasted Time” on that day, so he got creative.

“Busbee flew to St. Louis, got a studio and was in there with Carrie,” Urban says. “And then I would take a break from filming and Facetime then and check in with them.”

“The Fighter” is one of two collaborations on the album, the other being “Sun Don’t Let Me Down” with Pitbull.
