Merle Haggard Cancels April Shows Due to Health

"I want to thank my fans for their prayers and well wishes."

Merle Haggard has canceled his April tour dates to focus on his health. The musician has twice been hospitalized for pneumonia, once in December and a second time earlier in March, which prompted him to cancel parts of February’s tour dates.

In a statement his publicist made available on Tuesday, March 29th, Haggard said, “I want to thank my fans for their prayers and well wishes. I hope to be back on the road in May, but I’m taking it one day at a time” (via Billboard).

Haggard hasn’t let his health slow him down before. He battled lung cancer in 2008, but still performs frequently. Hopefully this extra time off will give him the rest he needs.
