Chris Lane Brings Falsetto to Country Music

Radio.com Staff

Chris Lane is one of country music’s up-and-coming stars, and is bringing a bit of a new sound to the genre. Specifically, falsetto singing. His new single, “Fix,” sees him hitting a higher register than most of his peers do.

He told Radio.com that he’s always sung falsetto… but only in his car.

“I got in the studio with Joey Moi,” he said, to start working on his EP. “I was five or six songs deep,” before something happened that changed the course of the album, and maybe his career.

“I was singing an Usher song, or Mario’s ‘Let Me Love You,’ and he turned around and said, ‘What was that?'”

“And I said, ‘What was what?'”

“‘What you just did. Why don’t you do that when you get in the vocal booth?'”

“‘Because we don’t have songs like that.’ A week or two later, ‘Fix’ came in and we just tried it out.”

At that point, they simply started over. “We wiped all the other songs out and started over, and that was very painful, because I was dying to get music out there. It was a long three year gap,” he notes, between his debut album, 2012’s Let’s Ride, and the Fix EP. “But I’m really glad I waited because I would never have ended up with the songs that I have now.”

Chris Lane’s Fix EP is out now. He’s currently on tour; check his website for tour dates.
