Rachel Bradshaw Talks About Struggling To Make It In Country Music, Performs ‘Romance Me’ (Video)
“I’m Stoney Richards from Y108 radio.”
I must’ve said that a hundred times but that’s the ‘glamour’ of TV.
Let me ‘splain, Lucy…
Since I know my way around a honky-tonk or two, our CBS TV station KDKA TV News called and asked me to go to Nashville to do a profile of Terry Bradshaw’s daughter Rachel who is launching her career as a country music artist. (Yes, Terry Bradshaw of Pittsburgh Steelers fame.)
So, we took a flights to Music City, grabbed my KDKA TV cameraman Steve Willing and before you know it, we were in front of Ernest Tubbs Record shop across the street from Tootsies Orchid Lounge on Broadway in Nashville.
Of course Rachel was wonderful and charming. Her record label, Bigger Picture had her sing a couple songs for me in a studio that, in years past, had been occupied by George Jones, Alan Jackson, Zac Brown and Ronnie Milsap. That’s Nashville – there’s living history behind every microphone in every office and behind any bar.
Rachael said having a famous father hasn’t always been helpful for her career. She would often become frustrated as she pounded the pavement in search of a recording contract. “I would go into these places and they would only want to talk about football or my dad and I would say ‘but I sing too I can do something’ so it took a long time to have people take me seriously,” said Rachel.
You can read more of the interview with Rachel at CBSPittsburgh.com. Our special profile of Rachel airs on KDKA-TV today (Nov. 18) at 6:00 p.m.
Damn, do you think Ron Burgundy will be interested in my work? Don’t answer. Just watch. It’s ‘sweeps week.’
