Sara Evans‘ new single, “Slow Me Down,” showcases the singer’s vocal power alongside dramatic production. Evans released the new track off her forthcoming album back in August and now fans can watch the video for the song.
Singing of leaving her husband, Evans enters the Peter Zavadil-directed video in a wedding dress looking distraught.
“The wheels are turning in my mind/ Don’t want to leave but I might this time/ Seconds from whispering goodbye/ Yeah, the wheels are turning in my mind,” she sings.
Her husband, played by NASCAR’s Carl Edwards, makes for a convincing partner. Always on his phone for work matters, Evans and Edwards get in a heated brawl in their high-rise apartment in the video.
“Sara Evans contacted me about four or five days ago and said she had this awesome video and wanted me to be a part of it,” Edwards said in a behind-the-scenes video. “Yeah, I’m the guy she’s dumping. Now we’re going to argue a little bit and eventually she’s just going to say, ‘Hey, man. I just can’t do it anymore.'”
“If all that’s left to do is walk away/ Then maybe I’m as gone as yesterday/ But if there’s something you need to say, you need to say it now/ Hurry up and slow me down,” she sings on the chorus.
The video was filmed at a club called Anthem in Nashville, Tennessee. In an interview with Billboard last month, Evans said the moment she heard the track she knew she had to cut it.
“There’s definitely something about it,” she said of the song. “That’s what we all felt when we heard it. When they pitched it to us, it was so emotional and the thought of ‘Hurry Up and Slow Me Down’ is one of the best lines I have heard in a song in so long. I’m very lucky they pitched it to me.”
“Slow Me Down” is the lead single off Evans’ upcoming seventh studio album. Release date and album title TBD.
