It’s good that things are working out professionally for Houser, as music wasn’t just his best career choice, it was his only choice. In an interview with Radio.com earlier this year, he explained that he never really had a Plan B.

“The thing that kept me pursuing music was that’s the only thing I ever really cared about. That’s what I love. There was never a Plan B for me,” he said. “I was bound and determined that’s what I was going to do. I felt like this was what I was supposed to do.”

For Houser, there was no quitting. He said he never once thought of doing anything else.

“You can make music and not be commercially successful and be happy. I was just making music, and I was determined that was going to be my career,” he said. “I don’t know how else to explain it then this is what I do.”

To Houser, country music embodies the simple life and values that he grew up with.

“The music definitely has a lot of organic property. Real people playing real instruments, singing real songs about real life. I think that’s what defines country music to me,” he said.
