It was his sense of humor and his determination, not his singing, that helped David Nail to lure his wife Catherine away from another suitor. David shares the story with Y108’s Jimmy and Monty:

“Well, you know, I was a starving musician at the time, and she was dating a starving golfer at the time. And I kinda got on the ol’ web there, and Googled the guy, and found out that, you know, as little potential as I had at the time, it seemed I had a little bit more potential than THIS guy, so I made sure she was aware of that. And she thought it was quite humorous, that I was going to that trouble to find out who it was I was competing with. It sounds cheesy, but it was one of the greatest decisions I made.”

“Once I found out he was still living with Mom and Dad, I at least had my own place. That, I’m assuming, was not one of his better decisions. Because my wife, she’s quite the catch, and I would assume that would be a bit of a deal breaker…”

How did Catherine’s parents feel about their daughter dating a musician?

“Her mom, the very, very first time that I went to her house to meet her parents and take her out… her mom kind of pulled me to the side and said, ‘I just want to get this out of the way. My daughter is not one of those girls’. I immediately kind of perked up and was like, ‘Well, I’m not one of those musicians, so it should work out perfectly.'”

And how is marriage working out for David and Catherine?

“It was four years in June, so I haven’t found a way to screw it up yet.”
