The 2013 People’s Choice Awards aired last night (1/9) on CBS. It was only the beginning of “award season.”

Jason Aldean represented country music on stage with a performance of “My Kinda Party.”

Although there were several country artists nominated, Taylor Swift was the only country artist to take home an award. She picked up the “Country Artist” trophy with a quick line of “this always happens” thrown in. Some Y108 listeners posted that they didn’t like that result on our Facebook page.

Joshua James Maguire wrote: “Only one problem here…I thought the award was for a COUNTRY artist, not a pop singer…”

Wendy Orleman Samek wrote: “Oh brother!”

Katie McCormick wrote: “wow. just plain wow”

Lexi Fanty wrote: Well I knew Carrie wasn’t going to win because she didn’t attend :( .

Casey Young wrote: “I voted for Jason Aldean. Was so hoping he would get it. Honestly Id been happier about if it was anyone else except Swift. Just my opinion though.

Rick Johnston I don’t hate her (Taylor Swift), I hate that she’s considered country music. Faaaar from being country music!!

Blake Shelton didn’t win the all-genre Male Artist award. Even in the TV competitions category, Blake Shelton’s show The Voice and Keith Urban’s new judging job on American Idol both lost out to The X Factor.

Carrie Underwood had several nominations including the all-genre Favorite Female Artist, Country Artist, and all-genre Favorite Album for Blown Away, but she didn’t win a single award. Carrie didn’t even show up for the ceremony.

Taylor Swift was also up for the Female Artist category, but it went to Katy Perry.

As for the competition for Song between Taylor Swift and her recently ex-boyfriends band One Direction. Harry Stiles got that one!

I think I know what happened though. Teenagers! My 13 year old daughter was standing on the sofa over Taylor Swift, The Hunger Games and even One Direction.

That’s the target, and that’s who gets involved with the on-line voting!

Hopefully next year the “people” (aka us older country music fans) will vote for more “country” stars to win!

btw, if you have teenagers – YOU CONTROL THE RADIO, so KEEP IT ON Y108! ;) Ally
