Comedian (and Pittsburgh native) Steve Byrne runs a fictional South Side bar in “Sullivan and Son”, a new sitcom airing Thursday nights at 10PM on TBS. Mirroring his own life, Steve plays a guy who grew up in the ‘Burgh with a Korean mother and an Irish father.
The “Sullivan and Son” bar set has some cool framed sports memorabilia on the walls.
“That Lemieux jersey actually was sent to us by the Penguins.” beams Steve. “That’s my favorite piece. I love it.”
However, Steve wants to set the record straight with ‘Burgh fans who are complaining online about his sitcom’s one glaring sports team omission. “Stop complaining about ‘no Steelers stuff’. When you’re on a show, you have to acquire rights from the NFL. And we don’t get the rights, so…” Will we ever see a Terrible Towel on “Sullivan and Son”? “We finally got the rights to that the last two or three episodes. So, it IS in there somewhere.”
Steve’s happy to see that his show is a hit in his hometown. “Pittsburgh has been tuning in. So I gotta say ‘thank you very much’. I hope you enjoy it.” Steve says we’ll see another Pittsburgh comedian making a cameo. “(Swissvale native and “Mike and Molly” star) Billy Gardell will be on week 4 or 5″.
Steve Bryne even treated his costars to some Primanti-style sandwiches!
