Dolly is one of my favorite root artists! I just loved her in the old movie 9 to 5 and hearing her on the radio – I thought there’s no voice more beautiful than Dolly!
So, it’s been awhile since I’ve heard her song Jolene and I thought you’d enjoy a flash-back to 1974 today!
I love the song. Maybe it’s the way she sings it, but I think it’s the personal feel that she gives the song. It’s said to be inspired by a real story in Dolly’s life. It’s about a beautiful red-head working in a bank who flirted with her husband and her husband’s reaction by going to the bank more after the incident to see her. Something to that affect anyway.
Any woman who loves a man, understands that in a world of beautiful woman (and the nature of men) that it’s a relationship to be watched and protected.
But Jolene is different, it’s not the angry “cheater” song. It’s more of a request of “please don’t take my man.”
