As Y108 welcomes Kenny Chesney’s “Brothers Of The Sun” tour to Heinz Field on June 30th, and Kenny tells Jimmy and Monty that he’s thrilled to return to the ‘Burgh.
“It’s something that we look forward to… this has kind of become a tradition you know, with us coming to Heinz Field, and all the fans there, all the boats on the water. It’s the thing I look forward to every summer.”
Kenny climbs to the nose bleed seats in every stadium he plays, to get a fan’s-eye view of his stage, and a sense of what he must do to keep the people in the cheap seats entertained. Will he still do that before his Pittsburgh concert?
“Yeah, I will.” says Kenny. “Even thought that I kinda know what Heinz Field feels like and looks like now, … it’s fun for me to go up there and just sit and just take a moment. You can go to the top of that stadium on the far end away from the stage, and you can see the skyline of downtown, and you can see the homes up on the hill across the river. You can just take the city in. And I love that.”
Tim McGraw, Kenny’s tour mate, is getting attention for his new buff physique, and it’s led to some friendly ribbing.
“I’ll tell you what, (Tim’s) in good shape now. Before the tour started, in rehearsal, he would bring me like a dozen o’ cupcakes one day, bring me a whole pie one day. Just to try to fatten me up.”
And now that the tour is rolling? “We’ve had a really good time out there so far.”
Kenny, 44, recently received a dog as a gift from a female friend, a goldendoodle named Pancho. Kenny explains the reason why:
“She goes ‘you have been gone so long’ and she goes ‘your life is so busy and you are constantly moving’ and she goes ‘I know you love that about your life’ and I said ‘I do love that about my life’ and she goes ‘you have got to attach to some thing more than the road (laughs) and your audience’. And I said ‘Okay. Really? (laughs)’”
“I tell ya. I love this dog now. I do. He’s a smart dog. He’s learning that he loves the road, he loves the water. So we go hand in hand.”
Is there a chance Pancho might dive into the Ohio River?
“Yeah (laughs), he might do it, You never know!”
