To celebrate Country Music Month, we’re talking to some country music experts all over America, and asking them, “what is country music?” This edition is from Rob Tanner. Rob is the host of the “Tanner in the Morning “show on the in Charlotte, NC. He also is the co-host of Charlotte Today, a lifestyle /entertainment TV show seen weekday from 11AM till Noon on the local NBC affilliate WCNC-TV.
Hey everybody Rob Tanner here. Great question: what is Country Music? Let me start with this…what country music isn’t! It isn’t arrogant or self-centered. It isn’t about an artist or a group saying hey look at me…don’t you wish you were me?
Country music is family, friends, good times, bad times, first beer, first heartbreak, growing old, being young. Country music is marriage, divorce, falling in love, falling out of love. Country music is that first car, first truck, last mortgage payment and last breath. It’s life from the beginning to the end. We are glad you’re part of it!
One song that helped me through a very hard time is a song from a film called 8 seconds. The movie is about Lane Frost who lost his life as a champion bullrider. Billy Dean had a song on the soundtrack called “Once in a While” It talks about a lost friend and remembering their laughter as two giggling little boys. I wore that song out after my only brother passed away at a young age from a car accident. Ever play a song that you know is going to make you cry… yet you feel better. That is just one of the wonderful things that Country is…and so much more!
